Linguist's Lament

Page history last edited by Anonymous 3 yrs ago

I really don't have that much to say about it. I'm struggling with the last two lines, with how to end it. Other than that, I'm curious to see what others will do with it and how the line breaks and grammar can be played with. (This would be one of my sad bastard break up poems.)

____Linguist's Lament____

The he who left

was the he of my heart:

voiceless aspirate, high

back vowel, giving way

to our artless combination.

The he who left

was the him of of my day -

dated and dative case,

affection's direct object.

The he who left

was half of the they

which meant we,

simple subject of sentences.

I was she of the

his who left.
