Guide to Posting

  • Create a new page for your poem

To create a page, all you have to do is put the page name in square brackets [ and ] on any Righting Poemry page. The place to do this for new poems would be at The Central Repository. One important thing to remember is that capitalization matters so make sure that every time you type your poem or page's name that you capitalize it the same.

After you've created the page at The Central Repository, follow the link now on the page to your new page.

  • Enter your poem

Fill in the poem. If there are several versions, you may use this as central place to link to each successive version of your poem (if there are many) or just post them sequentially (if there are few).

Link to any other Righting Poemry poems that influenced (however vaugely) your poem and explain how you think they connect. Check out, also, our note on Versioning.

Make sure to include the date your posted as well as your name (if you feel like it) at the bottom, so we know who to thank.

(Visit the PBwiki style page for info on how to style your text.)

  • If related...

If your poem is related to another poem on the site, visit that poem's main page and, underneath the author's signature and date, append a line break, two slashes, and then add a link to your poem and a short explanation of the relation. An example of this:

new poem: I think my new poem deals with a lot of these same things.--YourName

Or just add it to the version list, as explained in our Versioning note.

  • Add your poem to the "Active Poems" Section of the SideBar

Make sure to use the same spelling, capitalization and spaces you used in creating the page.

If that didn't help, here's a conversation Christina and I had detailing some of the ins and outs of this.

Christina: I don't quite understand the adding new pages instructions

RFRY: Alright, what don't you get about it?

All you have to do to get a new page to exist is to link to it.

Christina: so I hit new page then put the title in brackets?

RFRY: No, if you've hit the new page button, then you don't have to bracket it.

Christina: oh

RFRY: But you can make a new page exist just by linking to it with brackets from another page.

Christina: so say I'm writing an intro page to the poem, then I just write [poem name] and that page is created?

RFRY: Yep, but it can get messy because everything's got to have a different name, and that name is usually what's in links, so you might use [Poem Name] for the introduction and [Poem Name vX] for the poem itself, as a link off the intro page.

Where v = version and x = the version number. Or you own scheme.

Christina: right.

that's what I was doing

RFRY: Cool, then.

Christina: Then I link to my profile and whatnot by writing [Christina]?

RFRY: Yep.

Christina: so...how do I make that bracketed page exist?

new page again and copy the title?

RFRY: You just have to add content to it. From the saved version of the page you're making, just follow the link and you'll see the edit box.

Just input everything there.

Christina: ah I see.

RFRY: It's a bit different than the way most other things in life work, but it's simple and somewhat intuitive once you get used to it.
