Found attempts

A good rain was what we needed

we said.

A good hard rain

The drought had been

too long and we

had seen too much

of our desert give up, turn

from our too present sun and die.

A good, hard rain.

When the rain came we

laughed at the wonder of

the rain's dropped lace curtain,

our arms interlocked the

the inside of my elbow

matching yours exactly like

two lost puzzle pieces, found.

But as the rain drew nearer

so did the loud bass

claps rattling the walls and

electricity primal and rough

ran toward us so that we

dove to the door, hungry for shelter.

//

Variations on 4th stanza:

our arms interlocked, the crook

of my arm tight and strong against you

our arms interlocked, your flesh

damp with the new humidity

and your own honest sweat

//

Variations on last stanza:

But as the rain drew nearer

the adobe walls shook at the bass

clap heralds and electricity,

rough, raw, delighted in its release

jumped and leaped toward us so that

we had to dive for the door,

hungry for shelter

the electricity in its own

rough released dance leaped perilously close
