Accretion

--RFRY, 11 Aug 06

Over the past few days I've been having trouble with writing anything worth reading. Having exausted my let-them-write-themselves momentum (in Outside East Glacier, While Visiting East Egg, Long Island, 12 Oct 1969 and Near Fourth and Fourth) I found that some of the things put forward there were interesting, and the shapes of the poems were far more traditional than I'm used to working in (interesting image situation leads to reflection leads to closing image/revelation) but still somewhat... unfulfilling.

So I tried something different in writing this one. I wrote it and rewrote it and rewrote it and rewrote it with an emphasis on making it more Oppen-like. Particularly as Oppen is Heideggerian in the sense that they believe that poetry should be thinking, not embody it or display it, but be it. I don't know if it comes through, but you can certainly see the trying of things in the attempts and I think what comes closest to being a finished version, for now, and listed here, for lack of a better place, as v1, is at least interesting and quite different than my recent work.

So take a look, tell me what you think and try to write something in the same style. Or import the material into a different style.

Again, I say, the attempts are where it's at on this one.
